The weekend before last, Charleston’s shrimping fleet partook in an annual tradition, The Blessing of the Fleet. Our shrimping industry is an important component of Charleston’s maritime history. Without clean water, this industry, like every other commercial fishing industry, would slowly crumble.
While on patrol, we stopped at the Isle of Palms Marina to fuel up. Walking down the docks, I noticed an incredibly encouraging sight… recycle bins and monofilament recycling containers next to every trash can. Charleston Waterkeeper would like to commend the Isle of Palms Marina for taking the initiative to reduce the amount of trash and and litter that enters our landfills and our waterways.
